After a douse of Med Lemon, I slept like a baby needing the rest. Many had come on this trip carrying a sniffle or three so a recovery ride did not get the full vote. Several decided to run while others belatedly chose to cycle.

I felt refreshed after a solid sleep and decided to hike doing the Bird Trial. It was a beautiful morning as the sun worked its way through the mist atop the lake.

The Bird Trail was mostly a short walk through the forest comprising a loud cacophonic smorgasbord of busy bird sounds. There was continuous action, from tree to tree and shrub to shrub. I could barely keep up. Common bulbuls, weavers, mouse birds and many others I could not identify.

I lulled myself into the surroundings, walking through the intercrossing pathways, ducking spider webs and smelling the dry dusty earth. I stumbled across a lookout point where I sat, taking in the early morning views and then writing.

I returned back to the chalets taking a longer route walking alongside the lake shore. It warmed up as the sun glittered on water and the river birds were just as busy.

I returned refreshed and relaxed. Recovery of a different kind. After showering and loading the cars we drove to Harry’s in Graskop via Hazeyview for breakfast. Enroute on the tough Kowyns Pass, we came across Zahid and Isco calmly ‘spinning’ up the +8% gradient.

Pancakes is a standard repertoire in these parts and a treat we all love. Birthday boy Nizam made sure he ordered as many of the interesting items and for a change happily tucked into as many as he could. A feast was had leading us happily journeying home.

Thanks guys 🙏
