The lock down has encouraged many a birder to take more of an interest in different dimensions of identifying birds. Being limited to one’s home encouraged me to work on a goal I set to identify garden birds by sound. Often, one does not have binoculars ready on hand and sight can be challenging depending on the angle of light. Mostly, birds move rapidly so visual identification has limitations. I collated several Youtube videos by Villiers Steyn, a professional photographer and safari guide (aka The Safari Expert) and a wonderful quiz by another avid birder and blogger, Keanu Canto. Good luck in identifying the bird calls.

Now visit Words of a Feather to test yourself by taking the quiz compiled by Keanu Canto. You may also find the Xeno Canto (XC) website very useful as it collects and shares recordings of sounds of wild birds from all across the world. It was started in 2005 by Bob Planqué and Willem-Pier Vellinga with the assistance of the xeno-canto community.
I decided to follow on from our earlier conversation regarding the full list of priorities you must complete Faizel, … I can see why 🤔 I like the idea of knowing the birds and their calls in our surrounds – they play such an important role in our daily lives – brightening up our day with gay whistles and yet we do not NOTICE them – I like this contribution Fazel. 👍👍👍
Very true, birding has encouraged me to look at trees, leaves, insects and a myriad of other items I would otherwise not have noticed.
